ISPs have a significant revenue opportunity from monetizing errors that customers make during web searches—such as incorrect domain name entry or typing mistakes and spelling errors. When errors are made, Infoblox can redirect DNS responses from the Internet to send the user to an alternate site advising that the requested website name does not exist. These are called Non-Existent Domain (or NXDomain) errors.
By redirecting these errors to a landing page operated by a search monetization partner, ISPs avoid losing the customer search and can invite the customer to try again with a suggestion, or can automatically redirect customer traffic according to rules set up to handle common search errors for major websites. As a result, the ISP can derive revenue from the recipient websites—either based on pay-per-click (PPC) or cost-per-action (CPA) models.
Infoblox DNS server appliances are built to handle the massive DNS traffic loads experienced by ISPs during heavy search periods. Deployed within ISP central office or data center locations, Infoblox appliances are designed to be fully redundant, with hot-swappable power supplies, fans and hard disks. The Infoblox Grid enables automated failover and Disaster Recovery as well as extremely low operating costs with automated software updates, hardened appliance platform and secure operating system.

In support of NXDomain Redirection, Infoblox appliances support a variety of methods to redirect traffic to the ISP’s chosen NXDomain monetization provider according to a series of programmable rules.
By deploying the Infoblox NXDomain Redirection solution, ISPs can derive significant benefits including:
